If you’re planning a trip to Upper Myra Falls on Vancouver Island, spring would be the best. Waiting for the winter snow to melt allows the falls to be at their highest point. Upper Myra Falls on Vancouver Island is roughly 85 kilometers from Campbell River, drive past Buttle lake, and travel through the Nyrstar-Westmin Myra mines. Once there, you will find a dedicated parking lot. Walk down the logging road about a half kilometer, trail head is on your right. The actual hike is about 7-8 kilometers from the parking lot. “AllTrails” list this as a medium hike. I would have to agree as the trail can be tricky in places. Portions of the trail are difficult. For instance, the start is rocky and roots cover the path plus your trudging up a hill. Be prepared to duck under or crawl over fallen logs, trees and rocks, thankfully boardwalks are in place to help you cross the most troublesome areas.
Upper Myra falls trail meanders through an old growth forest, with a fantastic view of cedar trees. The trail ends with a spectacular view of the waterfall. Arriving at the right time of the day is paramount if you want a great photo opportunity.
